Youth Trips - The Chapleau River
We at Missinaibi Headwaters Outfitters are very passionate about the 'wilderness classroom' the learning's and personal growth that come from the experience of a canoe trip at a young age. Therefore, we have decided to run two programs for youth right on our doorstep in the Chaplau Crown Game Preserve!
It is a proven fact that children and teenagers exposed to outdoor education programs develop real life skills that give them a huge advantage over others as they transition into adult life. Young people taken from the comfort of their homes learn to be self reliant fast in wilderness conditions. They also learn to take responsibility, work in teams, and accept the consequences of their own actions. Their life skills grow with every year; they are significantly more confident, capable and stable than others kept in the comforts of their home and surroundings. They are also far better prepared to initiate, motivate, and lead in later life.
There are some things that are impossible to teach in the confines of the classroom or the home, studies show that young people only start to become aware of their limitations and their vast potential when they're taken away from their familiar surroundings and encouraged to develop self-sufficiency. Confronted with a new set of daily challenges in wilderness surroundings youth quickly sharpen their senses and learn to rely on their own resources. It is the self-confidence, knowledge of personal limitations and ability to develop self-support when challenged that becomes invaluable to them in later life.

Who's this trip for?
Beginners welcome. No previous outdoor skill or experience is necessary to participate on this trip. Expect moderate physical activity, 5-7 hours per day, brief moderate intensity.

Detailed Trip Itinerary
These programs will start at Racine Lake Campground at 4pm on the first day of the program, where the group will meet their fellow campers and instructors. We will go through all gear and make sure everyone has everything that they need to be warm, dry and comfortable on their adventure. We will go over the plan, pack all of our group gear and enjoy a BBQ dinner together.
The next morning we will set out on our adventure on the Chapleau River. Wild and untamed, the Chapleau is a true wilderness river. Inaccessible except by canoe, the Chapleau River is a nature lover's paradise. For its 65-mile length, this small stream runs through the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve, and forms the Chapleau-Nemegosenda Waterway Park.
On our final day, we will return to Racine Lake to unpack and clean up all of our gear. We will have our last meal together to celebrate our successes! |
