Missinaibi
Lake by Sea Kayak
(self-guided)
In
the heart of the Chapleau Game Preserve is the headwaters of the
mighty Missinaibi River. And at its source is a lake equally as
magical, mysterious and majestic as the river. "Missinaibi":
where pictures painted on rocks reflect upon the water. A lake of
130 miles of rugged Canadian Shield shoreline, of ancient pictographs,
waterfalls pouring into the lake, old growth stands of pine, and
one of Canada's most isolated yet road-accessible parks. Here, 55
miles north of the last town is a wilderness lake waiting to be
explored!
Our
kayak package opens this remarkable lake to the Sea Kayak. It provides
the independent traveler with all the equipment, food and instruction
necessary to explore this exceptional wilderness park at your own
pace. The package is easily customized to be shorter or longer,
or to include canoe or guide support.

Trip Itinerary
DAY 1: RACINE LAKE
Paddlers arrive at our Base Camp at Racine Lake on the first day.
Here we'll show you the equipment and food, take you through setting
up the tent and let you try the kayaks on our lake. We'll provide
you with a quiet campsite for the first night, or you can use our
bunkhouse.
DAY 2: MISSINAIBI LAKE
In the morning we'll shuttle you one and a half hours North to Missinaibi
Lake. Here you'll load the kayaks and depart down the lake. While
you have the freedom to explore the lake at your own pace, we'll
recommend some places you'll want to visit.
DAY 3: WHITEFISH FALLS
Most of our guests choose to make camp on a high rock across from
Whitefish Falls. The Little Missinaibi River pours into the lake
here, so take time to look at the pictographs and hike the trail
that by-passes the falls. Bring something to put your blueberries
in!
DAY 4: FAIRY POINT
This is the "must see" of the trip. Dozens of rock paintings
dot the cliffs at Fairy Point. Take your time paddling past them,
and take in the magic of this place. There is a great campsite across
the lake.
DAY 5: NORTH-WEST ARM
This may be a good day to paddle into the long secluded
arm of the lake and hike into the ruins of the old logging camp
3 km's inland. Reva Island and Jenner Falls make for interesting
paddles as well
DAY 6: BARCLAY BAY
Time to make your way back to the Park access at Barclay Bay. We'll
meet you there and drive you back to Racine Lake, that is if you
want to leave.
