Rupert River Canoe Expedition
Recognized as Canada's most endangered river, the Rupert has been the traditional route from the interior of Northern Quebec to James Bay. With the development of the Hydro Quebec Projects, the Rupert will soon be diverted, taking its flow from a breathtaking 1000 cms and reducing it to a trickle. This summer, MHO will be returning one last time to run two trips on the mid and lower sections of the Rupert from Le Chemin du Nord to the James Bay Highway and from the Highway to Waskaganish on James Bay. Led by local Cree guides, in tandem with MHO staff, this expedition will open your eyes to changing world of the Cree, to the power of a mighty river, and a rugged sub-arctic landscape which will soon be lost forever.
