Luxury Bonaventure River

The perfect canoeing river

By popular demand, we are returning to Quebec's Gaspe Peninsula to once again run La Riviere Bonaventure.

Enjoy one rapid, that lasts 7 days!... no portages, crystal-clear drinkable water, no mosquitoes, breathtaking mountain scenery. This is how the rivers must be in heaven. The Bonaventure has a reputation among canoeists as one the most stunningly beautiful rivers in Eastern North America. From its source high in Chic-Choc Mountains, the Bonaventure runs clean and crystal-clear towards the Baie des Chaleurs. After a bit of whitewater instruction, we'll be able to run the rapids in open canoes; long stretches of downhill C I-II rapids are run each day. No portaging also means comfort, for the best part of the trip may be at the end of day, where local guides prepare for you a feast of fresh food, including the river's fine Atlantic Salmon, wine, salads, seafood.

Note: This special trip is being offered in partnership with our friends at Cime Aventures, who will immerse you in the colourful character and hospitality of the Gaspesie.

Detailed Trip Itinerary

Day 0
:
Participants arrive at Cime Aventure's base, just North of Bonaventure Quebec. We'll have a wonderful meal on the patio overlooking the river, meet the guides and sort out equipment needs. That night we'll stay in the Tee Pees (Dinner and accommodation is included in package).

Day 1:
In the morning we'll meet for breakfast, then load the gear onto the shuttle bus for the long ride high into the Chic Choc Mountains. This will take the better part of the day, and we'll reach the river in the afternoon. A short paddle will bring us to the campsite.

Day 2-4:
These two days see the river change from a narrow creek, running through a forest fire burn, to become rocky and fast. Soon, we'll hit the "gorge".

Day 5:
The Gorge. The highlight of the trip. The valley steepens and the river drops fast. A series of ledges can be run or lined. That night we camp next to a quiet pool, listening to the splash of the salmon running their way upstream.

Day 6:
As we descend the river, we enter the portion of the Bonaventure with restricted access salmon fly-fishing.

Day 7-8:
The River is wider now, and flows with a 10 km current for the last two days. On the afternoon of Day 8 we arrive at Cime Aventures. That night we stay in their Eco-lodge, and have a final night together, a great meal, and lots of laughs.

Day 9:
Departure for home.
